Taco Seasoning

Almost every week The Dude and I play games with some friends over X Box Live. Our favorite quick and easy to eat while playing meals is nachos or tacos. Considering how much extra garbage they put in the taco seasoning you buy from the store and how often we eat tacos and nachos I decided to find us a good recipe. How hard could it be right? Well it turns out there are some pretty different recipes out there and some of them are for people who LOVE Cumin. I do not love cumin that much, I always tend cut cumin either in half or in thirds whenever a recipe calls for it. Finally I found one that was surprisingly good. I played with the amounts and this is what I got.  Since this recipe has chili powder in it and chili powder already has cumin in it I won’t be adding any extra. If you feel like there just isn’t enough in there feel free to adjust it.

  • 1 & 1/2 tsp cayenne ( optional, if you like more heat add more )
  • 3 tsp onion powder
  • 3 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 tsp oregano
  • 5 tsp seasoning salt
  • 6 tsp pepper
  • 6 tsp flour
  • 9 tsp smoked paprika ( you can use regular paprika if you don’t have the smoked but I recommend getting your hands on smoked paprika for this recipe. It makes a huge difference )
  • 6 tbs chili powder

3 tablespoons = 1 package of store bought taco seasoning

Makes appx 1 cup of seasoning

Combine all ingredients together and shake well. You can also toss them in a blender to get a finer powder.
